Vibrant Sunset

6x8" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($64)
I have some amazing pictures of sunsets so I thought I would attempt one of them.  I like the color contrasts and the composition.  I still have to work on the execution of clouds though.  I'm sure there are more to come in the future.

Two Red Trees

5x7" Watercolor & ink on watercolor paper ($59 Framed in 8x10" black frame with white mat)
Another little watercolor.  I like how loose and free the sky turned out in this one.

Line of Red Trees

5x7" Watercolor & ink on watercolor paper ($59 Framed in 8x10" black frame with white mat)
I like the vibrancy of this little painting.  Sometimes it is nice to work in watercolor again.

Floating Tree

5x7" Watercolor & ink on watercolor paper ($59 Framed in 8x10" black frame with white mat)
I dreamed of this one while in that space between waking and sleeping.  Don't know what it means or if the title really fits but I kind of like it.

Pulling Away

9x12" Oil on raw canvas (Prints available only)
This one is actually an old one.  I did it in Fall of 1999. I had several people tell me they would love a print of it so I finally decided to get it scanned and make some prints.  I got some photographic prints that look great and also some giclee prints that look amazing.  This painting is done on raw canvas so the linen paper of the giclee print makes it look very much like the original.

Leaves and Flowers

12x12" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas (commissioned $185)
Not a great photo, but oh well.  A lovely woman brought me a throw pillow she wanted me to base a painting from.  There were a few minor changes but the finished painting is pretty much like the pillow.  The embroidery on the pillow was so much like my style that it was easy to paint.  Commission works like these are always fun for me to do

3 Guitars

9x12" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas (NFS- prints available soon)
I'm loving how this one turned out.  I can't wait to get it professionally photographed or scanned and get some prints made of it.

Little Monkey on Yellow

3x4.5" Acrylic and ink on watercolor paper (in black 5x7" frame with white mat $20)
This little guys was something of a test for a kid's series monkey.  I think he turned out kind of sweet.  More monkeys to come after the holidays.

Little Tree at Sunrise

4x4" Acrylic on watercolor paper (NFS- Prints available soon for $8)
Another little tree.  I just love the sunrise in the background.

Nessie from Loch Ness

8x10" Acrylic & ink on watercolor paper (prints available soon $15)
Introducing Nessie from Loch Ness.  She finally came out of hiding so I had to paint her quickly.  I've had plans to add to the children's series for a while now but only just got motivated.  I have plans for more but won't spoil the suprise of what animals I'm going to do.

Boy with Airplane

8x8" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($68)
I've been painting so many girls lately I decided to try a boy.  This one looks more like an older boy rather than the toddler I was trying for.

Girl with Purple Bunny

5x7" Acrylic on watercolor paper ($45 with cream mat in black frame)
I'm playing more with backgrounds lately.  Not sure I love this technique but I'm going for a more understated background so the foreground takes precedence.  This bunny reminds me a little bit of a bunny in a children's book I read to my kids not too long ago.  I like the way the shirt turned out.

Bird On Her Shoulder

3.5x5.5 Acrylic on watercolor paper (SOLD)
Another bird girl, I'm not going to make up a story for this one though, you can use your imagination.  This painting is matted with a 1" white mat and framed in  a 6x8" white frame.  More pictures of the frame to follow.

Lone Red Tree on Blue

6x6" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($46)
I did this one last month but for some reason I forgot to post it.

Bird On Her Head

Acrylic on watercolor paper - (SOLD)
Why is there a bird on her head?  I don't know, it just felt the need to land there. Or, maybe it is part of the hat (thought it is a bit large to be part of the hat...). She obviously likes birds, just take a look at her shirt, so she doesn't mind having it on her head. This painting is matted with a 1" white mat and framed in  a 6x8" white frame.  More pictures of the frame to follow.

Some Butterflies

Butterfly
6x6" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas (gift)
This one was done as a baby shower present for a friend so it is not for sale.  The colors were a bit specific to the decor of the nursery.  I liked it so much that I did another one though.

Purple Butterfly
8x8" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($68)
I think the colors work a little better on this one.  I might do a few different colors in the near future.

Pouty Dress-up Fairy Princess

6x8" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($52)
This one was done before "Daydreaming Flower Fairy". They are still a work in progress, the next one will probably be a bit different too.

Alone No More

6x8" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($52)

Again, playing around with colors for the trees.  Also playing around with different overall shape of the tree. Not sure how I feel about this one yet. Sometimes I have to put a painting away for a while and when I pull it out again I will often decide I really like it.

Daydreaming Flower Fairy

8"x8" Acrylic on gallery wrapped cavas ($68)
I've been wanting to paint figures for some time but have been trying to figure out a way to draw them to my liking.  I love this artist. Her style is whimsical and delightful. She gave me quite a bit of inspiration for finally coming up with my own drawings for figures.

3 Yellow Trees

6"x6" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($40)
I've been playing with some different colors for the trees. The trunks are a little less ruler straight, I kind of like them.

Two Tree Painting Commissions

Little Red Tree with Roots
6x8" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas (SOLD-commissioned)
This painting was a companion piece to "Single Red Tree".  I love being able to do commission pieces and have the paintings mean something special to the person buying them.

2 Little Green Trees with Roots

8x8" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas (SOLD-commissioned)
This is very similar to "Little Tree in the Shadows" but smaller and with roots.

Flower Buds

Red Flowers on Orange

12x12" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($154)
I liked the "Purple Flower Buds" painting so well I decided to do some more in other colors. Had to go back to the old standby of orange, red and yellow.

Red Flowers on Teal
9x12" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($116)
I just love this color combination.

Ring Around the Moon Series

In The Moonlight

12x16" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($202)
I did this one a few months back but realized recently that I never took a picture of it.  This isn't a great picture but oh well. I like the way the painting turned out.  A little different than my other styles but I still like it.

3 Trees in the Moonlight II
9x12" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($112)
I did this one a while back as well.  It is actually quite similar to one I did before here that I sold.  This one is larger and a bit darker with a slightly different composition.

Balloons in Flight set

6x6" and 3 4x6" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($124 SOLD)
I've been wanting to paint some balloons for a few months but haven't gotten around to it until now.  I have several of these little 4x6" canvases that now seem a little small for single paintings.  I decided to try and group them together somehow and the idea of the balloons seemed like a great subject to paint on them.

Flowers on Yellow - Commissioned piece

8x8" set of 3 Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas (SOLD)
This was a commissioned piece that I just finished and will deliver later today.  I think they turned out really well.  It was fun to get a commission and see it through to the end.

Purple Flower Buds

18x24" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($342)
I love the way this one turned out.  The picture isn't great so hopefully I can get another one taken soon and replace it.

Multi Colored Rocks on Hill

12x12" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($154)
Yet another painting of rocks on a hill.  I'm thinking I'm done with this series.  I just don't want to do any more so that tells me to stop.

Landscape

16x20" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($230)
This painting is actually a copy of one I did several years ago but don't have a photograph of.  The first one was really loose and done in a watercolor type style with thinned down oils.  I liked it so much I thought I would do one on canvas. This one turned out much different though.  Overall I still like it but I like the spontaneity of the first one best.

Calla Lily Diptych

6x6" and 6x8" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($74 - SOLD)
I painted another calla lily but really wanted to put it on two canvases like one of my favorite artists, Laura Gun did with her Calla Lily panting.

Featured

I was just featured on a cool blog, Choking on Static Design. It is nice to be noticed. Every little snippet of notice could be a potential sale so I'm excited.

Red Spheres

6x8" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($52 - Purchase on Etsy.com)
There are aspects of this painting that I love but on a whole I'm just not sure of it yet.  I'll leave it as is for a while and might readdress it at a later date.

In a slump

Lately I've been in a bit of a slump. I have two completed paintings that I did last week that I really don't like. I was trying out some different techniques and designs but they didn't work. I think one of them didn't work because it wasn't really my "style". I was venturing out a bit but didn't feel very inspired while I was starting it and it showed. I ended up gessoing over one of the paintings and will probably do the same with the second one. I also started another larger painting a couple of days ago and it is mostly finished but I again don't love it. It has potential but I'm not sure what to do with it.

I don't like these times when my good creativity is turned off. I hope in the next few days I'll be inspired again and do some paintings I'm proud to put my name on. Until then I'll struggle through.

Baby Turtle in Cattails

8x10" Acrylic on watercolor paper (unmatted prints available $12 - Purchase on Etsy.com)
I started working on this one months ago, though it seems like last year. I reworked the background several times before I was happy with it. Then I put it aside for a while, I think I was scared of finishing it because I wasn't sure it would turn out quite right. When I finally picked it up again a couple of weeks ago I was able to finish it fairly quickly. Just goes to show me that sometimes if I'm having a problem with a painting I might need to put it aside for a while and come back to it later.

Little Flowers

Lined Flower on Purple I
6x6" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($40 - Purchase on Etsy.com)

Lined Flower on Purple II
6x6" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($40 - SOLD)

Lined Flower on Purple III
6x6" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($40 - Purchase on Etsy.com)

Rocky Hills

22x28" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($515 - Purchase on Etsy.com)
Same basic composition as Rocks on Rocks but this one is larger and has slightly different colors. This canvas has been sitting around for years waiting for me to get brave enough to paint on it. Finally I decided that if I hated it I could gesso over it (novel idea), so I went to work.

More Trees

I've been inspired to paint more trees lately so I did several this week.

Little Tree in the Shadows

9x12" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($112 - Purchase on Etsy.com)

Family of Trees
12x12" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($144 - SOLD)

Single Red Tree
6x8" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($52 - SOLD)

Blue Tree on Orange

Experimenting a little more with different colors. I'm going to do some more experimenting in the near future.

2 Trees with Roots
12x16" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($202 - Purchase on Etsy.com)

Calla Lily

6x6" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas (Not for sale)
This was a present for my Mom for Mother's Day. I think I'll do some more though. I like the way it turned out.

Ring Around the Moon Series

I've been inspired lately by a song I keep listening to by Elephant Revival, "Ring Around the Moon". I confess, I haven't really listened to what the song is talking about but I just love the imagery that comes to mind when I'm listening to it.

3 Trees In the Moonlight
4x6" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($28 - SOLD)

Desert in the Moonlight6x8" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($52 - Purchase on Etsy.com)

Darkness on the Horizon

9x12" Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas ($112 - SOLD)
I painted this earlier in the month but just realized I hadn't posted it yet. I was in somewhat of a dark mood but I like how it turned out.
